Two much loved Manhattan merchants have decamped for new locations. Neither has moved far but the new shops add space and customer amenities.
Sherry-Lehmann Wine & Spirits
Sherry-Lehmann had a shop on Madison Avenue since 1934. But New York real estate usually trumps tradition, and the store has moved 3 blocks to 505 Park Avenue at the corner of East 59th Street.
The larger new store has a tasting room, beautiful new cabinetry and displays, and wider aisles, making it easier to see their impressive inventory.
The wine and spirit selections, helpful service, and great traditions are continuing in the new location. After all, we'd expect no less from the merchants who introduced Dom Perignon, Chivas Regal, and Georges Duboeuf's Beaujolais to the United States.
L. Simchick
For 15 years, L. Simchick did business out of a tiny 1858 storefront but recently moved two blocks north to a larger spot to better serve its Sutton Place neighborhood.
The same superb quality, attention to detail, and first rate butcher skill prevails. And they still sell their fabulous "Mediterranean burgers," a favorite of The City Cook.
