Thanksgiving Wishes

Happy Holiday!

Thanksgiving is the busiest cooking day of the year.  I want you to know that I am cheering you on as you spill the overflow of turkey brine on your kitchen floor, curse the pie dough that you decided to make yourself instead of buying frozen, lament the complaints from family for daring to change the menu ("we must have canned cranberry sauce and it must be served in Aunt Lillian's pickle dish"), or feel the pressure of having staked your menu on either a fully traditional or untraditional meal.  No matter.  You'll be triumphant.

If the day takes a stressful turn or if some dish doesn't turn out quite right, just remember this:  That we are lucky to have our city kitchens, to have our passion for cooking, for being willing to take risks at the stove, and for the bounty of the good food and remarkable ingredients found in our markets.

So my thanksgiving message is one of gratitude.  Thank you for reading my words each week as I ponder the daily task of feeding ourselves by cooking our own food in our small kitchens.  I raise a glass to my fellow city cooks, wherever you are.

Happy holiday!
