Just in time for the winter holidays -- master chocolate maker Jacques Torres has opened his newest and third store on Manhattan's Upper West Side. With crystal chandeliers and beautiful custom wood shelving, Mr. Torres has created a decidedly refined and welcoming showcase for his astoundingly excellent chocolates.
Located at 285 Amsterdam Avenue between West 73rd and 74th Streets, the shop includes a café and a large retail selection of dark and milk chocolate specialty items as well as chocolate baking products. They're open seven days a week: Monday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
In announcing the new store, Mr. Torres made a point of saying why this third shop is different than his first two stores in SoHo and Brooklyn's Dumbo, each of which combines a café and store with a chocolate factory: "This store represents my goal of having a smaller, more intimate setting. I've been looking for a year to find the right neighborhood where I can create something that will become a neighborhood institution. I've been lucky; that is what happened with the Brooklyn and Hudson Street stores, and when I walked along Amsterdam Avenue, I knew the Upper West Side was the right place for the next sister store."
Jacques Torres' other locations are in Dumbo, at 66 Water Street between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges, and in SoHo, at 350 Hudson Street at King Street, 1 block south of Houston.
