A throw-back to an old fashioned neighborhood grocery store.  But this one also has an excellent butcher and fish department.

What's great:

Excellent butcher and fish department.  Small but nice bakery counter.

What to avoid:

Very small and pricey grocery selection.  The store can seem dominated by the huge centerpiece prepared food counter.

What to know:

The rivalry between Jefferson Market and nearby Citarella gives you the benefit of being able to comparison shop between them and other nearby markets.  If you often shop in this neighborhood, take advantage of this so you can pick and choose where you shop for what.
