What's great:
A small shop with superior meats, chicken and other poultry that's been a Manhattan fixture for generations. The butchers have old fashioned skill and a commitment to quality. They also have superb prepared foods, most notably their "dirty brisket" sandwich.
What to know:
They sell roasted chickens and on request (and for a price) will pre-cook some items, including turkeys. If there's something special you want, especially for a holiday, make sure to call ahead and place your order so you won't be disappointed.
The store has a small selection of kosher meats and carefully chosen grocery items.
After decades on the Upper East Side, the store moved in 2010 to the Upper West Side. Market rents may have forced the move but the store, its excellent products, and its superstar butchers are unchanged.
