Upper West Side

between W. 89th/90th Sts.

A small market on a busy stretch of Broadway in the neighborhood just above Zabar's.  The friendly staff is very knowledgable about smoked and pickled fish.  They always stock the favorites -- smoked salmon, whitefish, sable and pickled herring.  Plus there's everything that goes with the fish:  breads, bagels and cream cheese.

What's great:  The selection and quality is as good as in the better known smoked fish stores, plus the staff is welcoming and takes the time to carefully slice the fish to order.

What to know:  They're open on Saturdays, although they're closed during the most important Jewish holidays.
