Park Slope
436 7th Avenue
between 14th/15th Sts.

P: 718.369.7307

This is the kind of neighborhood wine and liquor store that everyone wishes they had.  Run by friendly people who live in Park Slope and know their wines, this location was once was a bullet-proof liquor store.  The need for that level of armor may be over, but the shop's original oak-lined shelves are still in place, reminders of old fashioned retailing and product expertise that these wine merchants still celebrate.

What's great:

They have a wide and deep selection of wines and spirits.  Wines are displayed by type of grape, country and price, with a helpful color code that guides you to different prices ranges.  They also keep a selection they call "Cheap and Tasty" which are happily drinkable and under $10 a bottle.  Some organic wines.  They hold regular tastings, cooking events, and are enthusiastic supporters of "Celebrate Brooklyn."  Visit the store's web site for current and upcoming events.

What to know:

The people who work in the store either have a culinary background or are passionate home cooks so you're sure to get good advice when matching wine to a meal.   They're open late (10 pm Monday - Thursday; 11 pm Friday - Saturday) and open on Sundays.
