at Wolcott

P: 718.222.0345

A bakery that specializes in classic American baked goods like cakes, cookies, brownines and pies.

What's great:

Homemade marshmallows in vanilla, chocolate and occasional seasonal flavors will never let you put one of those styro-supermarket ones in your cocoa again.  Cakes include classic flavors like red velvet (theirs is called "Red Hook Red Hot"), carrot, coconut and double chocolate.  There are about 6 or so different types of brownies, each more intensely chocolate and fudgy than the next.  The whoopie pies are made with tender, very dark cake-like tops and bottoms filled with exquisite buttercream.

What to know:

Many of their baked goods, especially the cupcakes, are sold at fine food stores in Brooklyn, including Grab and Blue Apron Foods.  The Red Hook storefront, which has some tables and makes amazing sandwiches, including Cuban sandwiches, is located right down the street from Fairway's Red Hook market and the worth-a-journey wine and spirit store, LeNell's.

They're open on Sunday.
