With five locations, many consider Francois Payard to be the best French bakery in Manhattan.
The individual French pastries are perfection both in their beauty and how they taste. The cookies are flavorful, tender and fragrant. They sell their own hand-made chocolates. And if you can't get to Ladurée and are craving a macaron, this is where you can get your fix.
What to avoid:
Their baguettes are not the reason to make a special trip to Payard. If you're adding bread to your pastry order, you won't be disappointed, but if your primary purpose is a great baguette, instead head to Balthazar or Maison Kayser.
What to know:
The shops also have cafés. The Payard empire includes shops in Japan and South Korea.
