This bakery is so good it's worth the trouble to get on the subway to go there just to buy a loaf of bread. There are two locations -- in TriBeCa and the Upper West Side.
Everything is artisanal and made in small batches. All their breads, old fashioned cookies, and an appealing selection of pizzas that can be bought by the slice or in multiples, making them an appealing choice to serve with salad or cut into small squares as an hors d'oeuvre. Pizza combinations include tomato, potato, cauliflower, a fine mince of mushroom, and other seasonal ingredients.
What to know:
Gran Daisy, named for the owner's grandmother, prides itself for being a community bakery. There are seats and small counters inside the shops where you can have a warm or cold drink with something sweet.
