An Italian market in the Chelsea Market complex that sells cheese, charcuterie, a huge selection of dried pastas, and other grocery items. Prices are very fair.
This is a place to find unusual items that can be essential for certain Italian recipes, such as bottarga, which is pressed fish roe, and different kinds of anchovies and canned tuna. They also sell excellent quality canned tomatoes at very, very good prices. For example, a huge 108 oz. can of whole San Marzano tomatoes, enough to make nearly a gallon of tomato sauce, costs only $4.95. They also have fresh buffalo mozzarella cheese and hard-to-find pastas like fregula sarda.
What to know:
Many of the cheeses are pre-cut so if you want something specific or special, talk to the folks behind the counter at the rear of the store. Some of the brands of pasta and canned goods are Italian and may be unfamiliar to U.S. customers.
