Knishes are a carb lover's dream come true. And Yonah Schimmel has been making them in the same location for over 100 years. 

They sell about 20 different kinds of knishes and sell from what is a plain shop with a small counter up front and a few tables in the back.

What's great: While the selection can be inventive at times (pizza knishes?), the best are still the classic potato and the hearty kasha knishes.

What to know: If wrapped in plastic wrap and foil, knishes will keep a week in the refrigerator or a couple of months in the freezer so buy a few extra.
